Tanzanian forward Mbwana Samatta grabbed a double as PAOK registered a convincing 5-0 win against OFI Crete F.C. in a Greece Super League tie at Stadio Thodoros Vardinoyannis on Saturday.
The 32-year-old Taifa Stars captain took only two minutes to give PAOK the lead when he thundered home from close range past goalkeeper Nikos Christogeorgos. Eight minutes later, Dimitrios Pelkas doubled PAOK’s lead following a move that was initiated by Samatta.
OFI Crete F.C. efforts to recover were dealt a huge blow after winger Levan Shengelia was shown a straight red card to leave the field of play.
PAOK then took advantage of the numerical numbers to make it 3-0 courtesy of Stefan Schwab’s well converted penalty in the 30th minute.
In the second half, it was 4-0 in the 58th minute when defender Giannis Michailidis scored from a powerful header before Samatta completed the rout after finishing off a cross from Dimitrios Pelkas.
Samatta, who began his career as a youth player for Tanzanian club African Lyon in 2008, featured for the entire 90 minutes. He joined PAOK from Fenerbahce in July 2023 after penning a two-year contract with an option for one year more.
He has so far featured in six matches for PAOK and Saturday saw him score his first two goals of the season. PAOK are currently 4th in the Greek Superleague with four matches remaining in the first phase where the top four finishers qualify for the championship group stage.
