Amid a serious threat of relegation from South Africa’s Betway Premiership, former SuperSport United defender Onismor Bhasera has outlined the role he will play in the coaching panel.
SuperSport management recalled the retired player to join the interim coaching panel comprising Andre Arendse and Grant Johnson following the sacking of veteran coach Gavin Hunt.
Now, Bhasera, who spent nine years with the Pretoria-based team before he retired, has told the club’s media that he will act as the bridge between the squad and the coaching panel.
“It feels great to be back home. No inspiration; no what. I didn’t need any inspiration to accept being back home. I am happy. I am grateful,” the 39-year-old said.
The Zimbabwean added that he was encouraged by the progress of the up-coming players and he now wants to play a part in creating rapport between them and the coaching panel.
“I have been watching everything that was happening. I have all the statistics. The young boys have been doing very well. It is all about leadership sometimes coming in to help the other guys," he explained.
"For me, it is a bit of a transition from playing to coaching. It is good for me but also for them. I can interact with them better. They can always come to me if there is any problem. So far so good, the guys are working so hard ready for the match.”
Lying second from the basement, SuperSport begin the post-Hunt era on Sunday with a home league game against Cape Town City who, too, parted ways with coach Muhsin Ertugral before the international break.
