Dar es Salaam giants Simba SC continued their run of winning form on Friday, defeating Pamba Jiji by a 1-0 score to make it five consecutive victories. Simba move four points clear of rivals and defending Tanzanian champions Young Africans who have the weekend off ahead of their 2024-25 CAF Champions League match against Al-Hilal of Sudan.
Cameroonian forward Leonel Ateba scored his third goal of the season in the 22nd minute, the lone goal of the match. Ateba received a cross from Ally Awesu on the left wing and the former USM Alger hitman was dragged down at the edge of the Pamba six-yard box. The resulting penalty kick was converted with power to give the visitors the lead.
It was not an easy three points for last season's third place finishers. Pamba created a few opportunities to challenge Simba goalkeeper Moussa Camara but the former Horoya shot stopper was up to the challenge, making a couple of notable saves to preserve the lead.
Simba have only dropped points twice in 11 matches: A loss to Yanga in October coming after a home draw against Coastal Union. The Reds will resume action on Wednesday with a home clash against Angola's Bravos do Maquis to begin play in Group A of the CAF Confederation Cup.
