Former vice-president of the Ghana Football Association, Fred Pappoe has stated that, the current FA should prioritize the qualification of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Black Stars missed out on progressing to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nation after a poor qualification campaign in a pairing that had Angola, Sudan and Niger in group F.
The team finished at the bottom of Group F with just three points and will not be at the continental football campaign for the first time two decades.
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup scheduled to resume in March, Pappoe is urging the leadership of the GFA to put in the necessary work that would help the nation qualify for the global showpiece to be hosted in Mexico, Canada and the USA.
“Qualification to the 2026 World Cup should be our top most priority. It will be more expensive not to qualify,” he told Accra-based Original FM.
After four World Cup qualifying games played, Ghana sit 2nd in Group I with nine points tied with nine points leaders Comoros.
The four time African champions will host Chad in match day five before a trip to Madagascar for game day six. The remaining qualifiers will kick off later in September.
