Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has given the time frame for the return of midfielder Themba Zwane, who has been missing in action for the last three months.
The 35-year-old was stretchered off during Bafana Bafana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying fixture against Congo Brazzaville.
“Themba is obviously very important for not only Sundowns football club but for South African football, national team player but no pressure he is recovering at home there’s still time to go,” Cardoso said as quoted by idiskitimes.
“It’s a very strong injury, very hard injury quite severe. He is recovering well according to the program but there’s still time to go for sure.”
Zwane’s absence has impacted Sundowns' performance, but the club is focusing on his full recovery over a rushed comeback.
The Brazilians advanced to the knockout stages of the Caf Champions League following a 1-1 tie against AS FAR Rabat at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday.
Despite the visitors posing a big threat early in the game, the hosts broke the deadlock in the 12th minute through Peter Shalulile.
