Former Ajax Amsterdam star Thulani Serero has signed for Cape Town City on a free transfer, closing the curtain on his career abroad spanning 15 years.
The Betway Premiership team confirmed the signing of the former Bafana Bafana international, saying “Cape Town made him. The world witnessed him. Welcome home, Thulani Serero.”
He spent seven seasons at Ajax Amsterdam before moving to another Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem in 2017. Serero left Europe in 2019 to begin his adventure in the Gulf Region when he joined Al Jazira with Khor Fakkan being his last port of call abroad.
The 36-year-old left South Africa in 2011 to sign a four-year contract with Ajax Amsterdam, renewing it for three years before he left.
He will work with experienced Turkish coach Mushin Etrugral who has revived Cape Town City, pulling them from the relegation zone to 10th place in the standings.
