Newly appointed Tunisia national team coach Sami Trabelsi kicked off his job with a crucial 1-0 win over Liberia in Monrovia as the Carthage Eagles maintained their top spot in Group H of 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying. Liberia dominated possession but an early goal from the visitors was enough to take home the three points.
After the win Trabelsi showered compliments to his charges. “My players fought hard so I must congratulate them. They have done it in a very difficult situation.”
Tunisia managed to keep their fifth clean sheet in the qualifiers. A strong defensive display also helped the team to keep Liberia at bay. Trabelsi also stated the encounter was never easy. “We achieved a valuable victory despite the difficulty of the match. We had some problems in possessing the ball but we take the win. That is very important.”
Tunisia tops Group H with 13 points as they persist on their perfect campaign thus far. They will face Malawi next in Tunis on Tuesday.
