CS Sfaxien players returned to training ahead of the club's Tunisian Cup game against lowly ranked Zriba Hammam on Sunday, April 6. The Tunisian side is struggling financially even after appointing a new board to run things at the Sfax club.
CSS players abandoned a friendly game against Astre Sportif de Agareb after the club failed to pay owed salaries. Head coach Lassaad Dridi was put in a tight situation but nonetheless, Sfaxien agreed to settle some portion of the owed amount as players returned to training to play the cup match.
According to La Presse Tunisia, Sfaxien is in a very deep financial crisis. The CSS Provisional Management Committee led by Mahdi Frikha was bestowed with the heavy responsibility of managing this crisis. The new board assumed power three months ago. If things go in the wrong direction, Sfaxien will be banned from signing players and participating in the 2025/26 Tunisia Ligue 1 season.
Sfaxien is currently seventh with 36 points in the league. The eight-time Tunisian champions have won the CAF Confederation Cup three times and are one of the biggest sides in Tunisian football.
