With five consecutive victories in the league and an ongoing eight match unbeaten run in all competitions, Espérance ST are truly on fire at the moment.
The Blood and Gold had a firm challenge on Wednesday but prevailed over ES Métlaoui with a 3-2 result in their favor. The visitors from Gafsa Governate took a first half lead but a decisive response arrived from hosts EST after halftime.
Yan Sasse's penalty kick leveled the match in the 49th minute and an own goal from ESM came soon after to complete a rapid turnaround.
The goals came after Espérance head coach Laurențiu Reghecampf sent a strong message to his players at the half, substituting four players to increase the urgency. EST increased their lead in the 75th minute when one of the substitutes, forward Achref Jabri, produced a brilliant volley to make it two goals in his last two matches.
ESM made a late rally by scoring five minutes later but it was not enough to prevent EST from moving four points clear at the top of the table. The CAF Champions League participants received further good news after learning that closest challengers Club Africain fell to ES Zarzis by a 1-0 score.
Moemen Rahmani scored the only goal early in the second half after CA failed to convert a penalty kick inside the opening twenty minutes. Zarzis, who only gained promotion to Ligue 1 this season, continue to surprise observers of Tunisian football by moving into second place following the result.
Finally, CS Sfaxien continued their revival on Wednesday with a 1-0 victory over EGS Gafsa courtesy of Firas Sekkhouhi's second half penalty kick. Now unbeaten in four matches, the three-time CAF Confederation Cup champions are finding stability under coach Lassad Dridi and have ascended to seventh place on the table.
