With Espérance ST and CS Sfaxien occupied by duties in CAF club competitions, Tunisia's top division Ligue 1 Professionnelle continues on with an ongoing fierce battle for top spot.

At the moment it appears that US Monastir are favorites to claim first place but only two points separate first from fourth position. Monastir defeated CA Bizertin by a 3-1 score on Sunday. Tunisia national team forward Hazem Mastouri scored two goals in two minutes in the first half to deal a blow from which Bizertin would not recover.

Mastouri is now tied atop the scoring charts with eighth goals along with ES Zarzis' Youssef Snana. Monastir are one point back of current leader Stade Tunisien but have played one less match.

Stade were held to a 1-1 draw at home by surprise side ES Zarzis, who opened the scoring with Burkinabe attacker Clavert Kiendrebeogo's debut goal after joining from Burkinabe champions AS Douanes. ST equalized through Rwanda national team midfielder Bonheur Mugisha for the two top-5 teams to share the points.

Another Tunisian giant to watch out for is Etoile du Sahel who are back to strong form after a disastrous start. L'Etoile are unbeaten in eight league matches following a 2-0 victory at Olympique Beja on Saturday. Oussema Abid scored both goals for ESS who are nine points behind Stade Tunisien on 25 points.

The league resumes on Wednesday with matches involving the two clubs involved in CAF competitions. CS Sfaxien travel to CA Bizertin on Wednesday before Espérance ST host Olympique Beja on Thursday.
