JS Omrane, promoted to Tunisia's top flight Ligue 1 for the 2024-25 season, suffered at the hands of US Monastir on Thursday in a 7-0 thrashing at the Mustapha Ben Jannet Stadium in Monastir.
Moez Haj Ali opened the scoring for the hosts in the 13th minute and it only got worse for visitors JSO. Former Paris Saint-Germain youth player Mehdi Ganouni scored his first two goals since moving to Tunisian football and league top scorer Hazem Mastouri added another goal to his tally from the penalty spot.
USM are in third place, level on 40 points with Club Africain who did well to earn a 1-0 victory at CS Sfaxien in the other match played on Thursday. Hamza Khadhraoui produced an excellent finish for the only goal close to the half hour mark, keeping CA five points back of league leaders Espérance.
Defending champions Espérance remain the club that every team is chasing in Ligue 1 as the Blood and Gold continue to win matches. With ten rounds remaining the matches increase in importance and opportunities may arise with EST set for more matches with the CAF Champions League knockout stage approaching in March.
The league resumes action on Saturday with the majority of the clubs involved including EST.
