Espérance ST enjoyed a routine result on Saturday with a 2-0 victory away at AS Gabès to maintain the Blood and Gold's three-point lead at the top of the Tunisia Ligue 1 Professionnelle table.
Brazilian playmaker Yan Sasse scored both goals in the first half for the reigning Tunisian champions and CAF Champions League quarterfinalists. The former Wellington Phoenix attacker struck his first goal in the 25th minute, arriving to finish after young Malian forward Aboubacar Diakité did excellently to knock down a lofted ball into the ASG penalty area.
Seven minutes later, Sasse completed his double. A quick movement into the ASG penalty area saw the Brazilian start and finish the play by flicking a pass out wide to Chiheb Jebali before arriving to finish from Jebali's cross.
Over at the Stade Olympique in Sousse, EST's main rivals Etoile Sportive du Sahel stayed within reach of the leaders with a 1-0 victory over CA Bizertin. ESS remain within three points of EST and the result marks a successful recovery from their 3-0 defeat to Espérance earlier in the week.
The rest of the clubs in the top five positions will be in action on Sunday. US Monastir can move back ahead of ESS but face a difficult opponent away from home at CS Sfaxien. Club Africain and ES Zarzis will be at home against opposition each team is expected to defeat.
