The 19th round is complete in Tunisia's top flight Ligue 1 Professionelle and the participants from the Tunisia Classico now sit first and second on the table after second placed Étoile du Sahel joined rivals Espérance ST in achieving victory.
Thursday's result saw Étoile win their fifth consecutive match and extend their unbeaten streak to twelve matches with a 2-0 victory over AS Soliman. Houssem Dagdoug opened the scoring for ESS with a brilliantly struck free kick just before halftime to deal a crushing blow to visitors Soliman.
Soliman provided more of a threat in the second half but could not create any clear chances against the strong ESS defense, which has only conceded seven goals in twelve matches during their unbeaten run. Former Tunisia international Firas Chaouat put the result beyond doubt for the hosts when he fired in a penalty kick for his 8th goal of the season following a hand ball in the Soliman penalty area.
The other results on Thursday featured a couple of draws with JS Omrane and Olympique Béja playing to a 2-2 draw while US Ben Guerdane and US Monastir neutralized each other in a 0-0 result. Round 20 will begin next Tuesday and conclude on Thursday.
