Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen has been over the moon after his brace propelled Galatasaray to a 2-1 win over Fenerbahce in the quarter finals of the Turkish Cup on Wednesday.

The lanky attacker pounced on to a loose ball few meters away from Fenerbahce’s goal area before applying a powerful force behind the ball to open the flood gate for the visitors with just ten minutes into the fierce Istanbul derby.

Seventeen minutes into the game, Galatasaray were awarded a penalty when Filip Kostic was adjudged to have handled the ball in Fener’s penalty area after a goalmouth melee. A VAR check confirmed the incident with Victor Osimhen stepping up to score from the spot.

The Super Eagles striker shared his joy after his double powered Galatasaray into the semi-finals of the Turkish Cup. “We know that Galatasaray – Fenerbahçe matches are intense and difficult matches,” the Super Eagles striker told the media.

“It is necessary to focus from the first minute to the ninetieth minute. We were actually optimistic when we came. Unfortunately, we made our fans unhappy last week. We had to play well here to compensate them. Now we will look at the upcoming matches and progress match by match,” Osimhen said. As I have said in previous interviews, I have really loved this club since I came here, I loved the people here, I loved the fans. I want to reciprocate their love by working hard. My teammates are also very important to me. They always support me.

Of course, scoring a goal in the derby was important. If my teammates had not done very important things, I would not have been able to score those goals. I am grateful to them in this regard. I want to continue my performance. I want to do everything I can for the team.”

However, Ferbanache fought hard and managed to pull a goal back through the effort of Polish international, Sebastian Szymański just on the stroke of half time but that was not enough to save Jose Mourinho’s men from the claws of defeat.

The game at the Sukru Saracoglu Sports Complex was overshadowed by a post-match altercation involving Fenerbahçe boss Jose Mourinho and Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk.Galatasarasay will now play against Konyaspor on 22 April.
