Angola scored six goals on Monday but it was not enough to qualify for the quarterfinals of the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Angola deservedly beat the Central African Republic (CAR) 6-1 in their last Group D match. Densel Liyun starred in the tie with a hat-trick.
Angola were far better than their opponents on the day as they scored twice in the first half. Lucas gave Angola the lead before Densel doubled it with a magnificent finish in the 26th minute.
In the second half, a change in goalkeeper and poor defending caused the Central African Republic to concede more goals. Densel and Jairo scored in quick succession after the hour mark to put the game to bed.
Densel completed his hat-trick with a good finish before CAR pulled one back with a beautiful goal from Anan Otto. Jairo completed his brace deep into stoppage time as Angola earned their first three points of the competition.
Angola failed to qualify for the quarter-finals after finishing third in Group D with four points, behind Ivory Coast and Mali. They will play in the four-team playoff for the 2025 FIFA U-17 with the three other third placed teams from the group stage. It has been a difficult few days for CAR as they finished bottom with zero points.
