Zambia opened their 2025 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a big win over Tanzania to complete the first round of matches in Group A. The Junior Chipolopolo hammered the Serengeti Boys 4-1 in an action-packed match in the Moroccan city of Mohammedia.
Tanzania were let down by poor attacking proficiency whilst Zambia were very clinical in front of goal. Zambia took an early lead through their captain Jonathan Kalimina whose left footed shot found the back of the net.
Nkotami Chimwemwe finished off a great delivery by Nthasilwe Malupande before the half elapsed and Zambia were in excellent shape.
In an evenly matched second half, three late goals were recorded. Mike Mutale scored to make it 3-0 in favor of Zambia with a simple finish. Tanzania pulled one back with Juma Sagwe’s header but Gabriel Phiri quickly struck back for Zambia, providing a beautiful finish for his team's fourth goal.
Zambia sit second with three points, level with hosts Morocco in Group A. Tanzania are third and will face Uganda as both East African sides aim to earn their first points on Thursday while Zambia face Morocco.
