U-17 AFCON: Morocco coach Nabil Baha wants to “keep the trophy at home”

Morocco qualified for the 2025 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations final on Tuesday evening, defeating Côte d'Ivoire on penalties (4-3) after a tense, goalless match played at the El Bachir Stadium in Mohammedia. As in the last edition, the Atlas Lions reached the final. This time, they hope to secure the title on home soil.

"I feel immense pride; it's indescribable," said national coach Nabil Baha at a press conference. He added, "I've always believed in my squad and its ability to go far in this competition."

Aware of the stakes, the former Moroccan international is already calling for concentration. "We're in the final but we have to turn the page quickly. We have to savor this moment of course, but above all prepare for this last match. This is the second consecutive final for us."

And the coach didn't forget to emphasize the ultimate goal: "We have to go for this title, firstly because we're playing at home and secondly because we really want this trophy to stay in Morocco. We have a talented group of players capable of being African champions next Saturday."

The hero of the match, goalkeeper Chouaib Bellaarouch, also praised the team's strength... and the support of the crowd. Having made three decisive saves in the penalty shootout, he received the man of the match award.

"The atmosphere was incredible, the crowd supported us. Honestly, we didn't expect such a turnout. It's a huge source of motivation," he said after the match.
