Uganda U17 head coach Brian Ssenyondo has welcomed the new Group A challenge after Kenya was drafted into the group following the withdrawal of Ethiopia and Burundi from the AFCON U17 Zonal Qualifiers. Uganda now faces familiar regional rivals Kenya and Tanzania in East Africa's CECAFA region.

“Of course like Tanzania, Kenya is our rival. Unlike Tanzania, Kenya has always given us a hard time but we have always come out winners. This is not to say they are a weaker opponent because a rival is always a rival. This gives us a good edge because when you’re in a group of strong teams and you come out a winner, the other games become easier since you’ve had a real test from the group,” Ssenyondo remarked.

The Cubs have been in residential training for close to a month as they prepare for the tournament which kicks off on December 14 and runs until December 28 in Uganda. Matches will be played at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, and St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Updated Groups

Group A: Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya

Group B: Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan

New fixtures are expected to be released early today. The two finalists from the tournament will qualify for the 2025 AFCON U17 tournament to be held in Ivory Coast.
