The Uganda U17 Boys National Team delivered a spectacular performance at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo on Saturday afternoon, thrashing Kenya 5-0 to storm into the semifinals of the 2024 U-17 AFCON CECAFA Qualifiers.

Striker Bogere James stole the show with a stunning hat trick, scoring in the 18th, 42nd and 51st minutes to not only claim the match ball but also become the tournament's leading scorer.

Magala Isima Mulala and Wanyama Simon added a goal each in the 40th and 81st minutes, respectively to seal Uganda's emphatic win.

Speaking after the match, Uganda Cubs head coach Brian Ssenyondo lauded his team for their exceptional display.

"The boys executed the game plan perfectly. They showed hunger, discipline, and clinical finishing. We knew Kenya would be tough but our preparation and teamwork made the difference. Now our focus shifts to the semifinals as we aim to secure a spot at the U-17 AFCON," Ssenyondo said.

Uganda dominated from the start with Bogere opening the scoring in the 18th minute via a penalty after being fouled. The Cubs maintained their pressure, and Mulala doubled the lead in the 40th minute with a precise strike from close range. Two minutes later, Bogere capitalized on a defensive error to make it 3-0 before halftime.

The second half saw Uganda maintain their intensity with Bogere completing his hat trick in the 51st minute. Kenya, unable to break through Uganda’s solid defense, conceded a fifth goal in the 81st minute when Wanyama Simon delivered a sublime finish.

With this victory, Uganda moves one step closer to earning a spot in the U-17 AFCON as they will face Somalia in the semifinal on Tuesday 24th, a side that ejected them at the same level in the previous edition.
