Ethiopian U17 women national team have been summoned for the second round FIFA U17 Women World Cup qualifier game against Cameroon. Ethiopia automatically qualified for the second round after the withdrawal of Zimbabwe.

Head coach Rawda Ali has called 23 players and the team will enter residential camp on February 20 in Addis Ababa. Clubs from the Ethiopian Women Premier League and second tier Ethiopian Women Higher League managed to get their players called up for the doubleheader.

Sidama Coffee and Bole SubCity managed to include three players each in the squad. Ali has opted to stick with the players she has called for the Zimbabwe game.

Meanwhile, Pan-Africa Football understands that the Ethiopian Football Federation did not include a single player from the annual U-17 youth sport competition organized by the country’s Culture and Sports Ministry.

The competition was held at Sodo, Wolayta Zone, between regional states and two city administrations. Nevertheless, lack of MRI tests and rampant age cheating in the competition forced EFF to stick with players who are competing in the different leagues.

Ethiopia has never qualified for the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in four attempts. In 2022 they reached the last qualifying round but eventually lost 1-0 on aggregate to Nigeria. Ethiopia will face Cameroon on March.
