Uganda has been drawn in Group A of the TotalEnergies CAF Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025, where they will face hosts Morocco, regional rivals Tanzania, and Zambia.
The draw, conducted on Thursday, February 13, in Cairo, saw 16 teams placed into four groups of four. As hosts, Morocco was automatically assigned position A1 in Group A.
This marks Uganda’s second qualification for the U17 AFCON, having secured a spot in 2021 before the tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Cubs booked their ticket to this year’s competition by winning the CECAFA U17 Qualifiers, coming from behind to beat Tanzania 2-1 in the final after a semi-final victory over Somalia.
A challenging journey awaits Uganda, as only the top two teams from each group will progress to the quarter-finals and earn automatic qualification for the 2025 FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar. The tournament is set to run from March 30 to April 19, 2025, in Morocco.
With FIFA expanding the U17 World Cup to 48 teams, a record 10 African nations will compete in the global event scheduled from November 5-27, 2025, in Qatar.
