Uganda Cranes forward Ivan Ahimbisibwe has exuded confident that they have what it takes to beat Burundi in a two-legged fixture of the 2024 Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) qualifiers.
The Cranes under Paul Put will face the Swallows in the first meeting on Thursday at Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo before the return leg scheduled for Sunday, December 29 away.
Ahimbisibwe, who is among the players that will report to residential training at Nob View Hotel on Wednesday, December 25, believes the Cranes are focused for the task ahead of them.
“It’s been a long awaited opportunity and there are smiles all around as we focus on the tasks ahead,” Ahimbisibwe told the website of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA). “We’re playing Burundi and we are well-prepared. By following the instructions from the coaches and working as a team, we are confident of achieving the best results.”
Ahimbisibwe added: “The competition for positions is tough because everyone wants to impress the coach. As an individual, I’m doing my best to be considered for the final squad. As a team, everyone is giving their all to ensure we achieve the best results.”
On Uganda winning the rights to co-host CHAN tournament, he said: “Uganda hosting CHAN is a significant opportunity for the country and for individual players. It provides a continental platform that is followed by many people around the world.”
