Uganda Cranes’ towering defender Bevis Mugabi has made an immediate impact at Cypriot side Anorthosis Famagusta. Mugabi scored his first league goal for the club on Saturday, showcasing his knack for scoring on set pieces.

After netting seven goals during his time in the Scottish Premiership with Motherwell, Mugabi has quickly adapted to life in Cyprus. Having already opened his account in the Cyprus Cup, the 29-year-old registered his first league goal on Saturday in Anorthosis’ commanding 4-0 victory over Nea Salamis.

Mugabi’s second-half strike contributed to a crucial win, lifting Anorthosis to 30 points after 19 games. The team now sits 7th in the 14-team Cyprus First Division, striving to climb further up the table.

The goal adds to a memorable season for Mugabi who capped off 2024 by scoring his maiden international goal in Uganda’s 1-0 victory over South Sudan during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Anorthosis face a tough test next as they host third-placed AEK Larnaca on Friday, January 25. Mugabi will be eager to continue his strong form, excelling in defense and contributing to the attack when opportunities arise.
