Ugandan internationals Hakim Kiwanuka of SC Villa and Kitara FC’s Denis Omedi are on the brink of joining Rwandan giants APR FC after traveling to Rwanda on Wednesday to finalize their moves.

The duo were spotted in the stands at Stade Umuganda in Gisenyi, where APR FC played Marines FC in a league encounter. Sources close to the club confirm that Kiwanuka's deal is already sealed, while negotiations for Omedi's transfer are in advanced stages.

Kiwanuka, a dynamic winger for SC Villa, and Omedi, the Kitara’s leading scorer last season have both been key figures for their respective clubs. Soon after the conclusion of APR FC's 2-1 victory over Marines, the signings of both players was confirmed by APR social media accounts.

Their potential departure from the Uganda Premier League marks a significant shift as they join one of East Africa's top clubs. Both players are currently part of the 36-man provisional squad summoned by Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

However, their anticipated moves to APR FC could rule them out of the tournament, which is reserved for players competing in domestic leagues. Kiwanuka and Omedi's transfers reflect APR FC's ambition to strengthen their squad, adding more Ugandan talent to their ranks alongside established midfielder Taddeo Lwanga.

Meanwhile, SC Villa faces the challenge of filling the void left by Kiwanuka, who had been instrumental in their title-winning campaign. Kitara FC will also need to regroup as they lose their star forward, Omedi, to international football.

The moves underline the growing influence of APR FC in attracting top talent from the region, reinforcing their dominance in Rwandan football.
