KCCA FC ended their four-match winless run with a crucial 2-1 victory over struggling Wakiso Giants at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium on Sunday.

The win lifted KCCA to third on the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table, just four points behind leaders NEC, who have 26 points.

Forward Etienne Katenga played a starring role, scoring KCCA’s opener in the 15th minute before setting up the match-winner for substitute Emmanuel Anyama.

Wakiso Giants' only goal came from Hudson Mbalire, who equalized in the 22nd minute.

KCCA took the lead when Katenga controlled a low cross from Sharif Ssengendo and calmly slotted past Wakiso goalkeeper James Alitho.

However, Wakiso Giants responded swiftly as Timothy Oyamo’s delivery from the right flank was met by Mbalire, who converted to level the score.

The decisive moment came in the second half when Katenga, once again the architect broke free on the left flank. His perfectly lifted cross to the far post found substitute Anyama, who connected with precision to restore KCCA’s lead.

Despite late pressure from Wakiso, KCCA’s defense held firm to secure all three points. The win marked KCCA’s sixth victory in 12 games, boosting their campaign for the league title.

For Wakiso Giants, the defeat was their seventh in 12 matches, leaving them third from the bottom with only nine points, increasing the pressure on the Purple Sharks as they battle to avoid relegation.

KCCA coach Abdallah Mubiru will hope his side can build on this performance as they look to close the gap on the top two while Wakiso will be desperate to turn their season around before it’s too late.
