Kitara Football Club has officially announced the departure of star forward Denis Omedi who has signed with Rwandan giants APR FC.
Omedi, a pivotal figure in Kitara’s history joined the club in July 2023 from Booma FC on a two-year contract. Over the past seasons, he has been instrumental in shaping the team’s success, leaving a lasting legacy both on and off the pitch.
During his time at Kitara FC, Omedi played 45 matches across all competitions, scoring an impressive 19 goals. He played a key role in Kitara’s maiden Stanbic Uganda Cup triumph in the 2023/24 season, scoring vital goals against Gaddafi FC and Pajule Lions FC that steered the club to glory.
In the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, Omedi featured in 36 matches netting 15 goals during the 2023/24 season, narrowly missing out on the Golden Boot by just two goals. His exceptional performances also extended to the CAF Confederation Cup, where he scored two goals in two matches against Libyan side Al Hilal Benghazi, marking his arrival on the continental stage.
Omedi’s sensational Rabona goal against KCCA FC in the FUFA Super 8 Cup catapulted him to international fame. The stunning strike earned nominations for the CAF Goal of the Year and FIFA Puskas Award, eventually placing third globally in a contest won by Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho.
Reflecting on Omedi’s departure, Kitara FC Club President Deo Kasozi expressed heartfelt gratitude: “I want to thank his parents for giving him the chance, his former club Booma FC for shaping him into what he is now, and FUFA for creating an enabling environment for his talent to be seen.
"I also thank the past and present players and coaches who supported him to shine at this level. As he leaves the team, we wish him a prosperous career, but most importantly, he should remain disciplined and think about his country because we need him.”
Omedi’s contributions to Kitara FC both as a player and an icon have etched his name into the club’s history books. He departs as a true Royal with his achievements celebrated by fans and teammates alike.
