SC Villa’s awaited return to Muteesa II Stadium ended in disappointment as they suffered a 2-0 home defeat against a resilient Maroons FC side on Sunday in the final match of the Uganda Premier League's Week 19.

Maroons, desperate to end a four-game winless run, struck early through Raymond Walugembe and sealed the victory with an 80th-minute strike from former SC Villa midfielder Abel Eturude, who chose not to celebrate against his old club.

The Jogoos started brightly, nearly taking the lead in the 2nd minute when Sula Matovu’s long-range strike forced an early save from Maroons’ goalkeeper Simon Tamale. However, the visitors quickly turned the tables with Walugembe breaking the deadlock in the 10th minute to stun the home crowd.

Despite SC Villa pushing for an equalizer in the second half, bolstered by substitutions from head coach Morley Byekwaso, Maroons’ defense held firm.

Tamale once again came to the rescue in the 66th minute, denying Matovu’s free-kick attempt after a foul on substitute Charles Lwanga. With Villa running out of ideas, Maroons delivered the final blow as Eturude calmly slotted home in the 80th minute, sinking his former side deeper into trouble.

The victory propelled Maroons to 8th place with 27 points, overtaking SC Villa, who slipped to 9th with 24 points.
