KCCA head coach Abdallah Mubiru has urged his players to step up as they prepare for a crucial Uganda Premier League encounter against table-toppers Vipers SC at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
Speaking ahead of the high-stakes fixture, Mubiru acknowledged the team’s recent struggles but remained optimistic about their chances of turning things around. “We are still recovering from the previous game, but our physios are ensuring the players are in peak condition ahead of Vipers SC,” Mubiru stated.
“The squad is mentally prepared and eager to compete. While results haven’t gone our way, we believe we will get it right soon.” KCCA heads into this clash following a disappointing 1-0 defeat to NEC FC, leaving them 13 points behind Vipers.
A major concern has been inefficiency in front of goal, something Mubiru insists they have been addressing in training. “We have been working on our finishing in training. We create chances, but we haven’t been converting them. We are hopeful the players will improve in this aspect,” he added.
The Kasasiro Boys will have to navigate the fixture without key players, including Steven Munguchi, Haruna Ssebaduka, Peter Magambo, Usama Arafat, Julius Poloto, and Muhamud, all sidelined due to injuries.
Adding to their challenges, goalkeeper Emmanuel Anyama is dealing with a personal loss following the passing of his mother. “We sympathize with Emmanuel Anyama and pray for his family during this difficult time,” Mubiru said.
Despite the setbacks, KCCA will be boosted by the return of right-back Gavin Kizito, who is available for selection after serving a one-match suspension. His presence will be vital as KCCA aims to contain a Vipers side that boasts the league’s best goal difference and the in-form Allan Okello.
With KCCA’s title aspirations hanging in the balance, Sunday’s showdown could determine whether they stay in contention or if Vipers extend their lead towards a seventh league crown. Kickoff is set for 7 pm at Lugogo.
