NEC FC kept up the pressure on StarTimes Uganda Premier League leaders Vipers SC with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Mbarara City at Philip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

Paul Mucureezi converted a penalty in the 83rd minute to secure all three points for coach Hussein Mbalangu’s side. The victory, NEC's ninth in 14 matches, pushed them to 30 points, just one behind Vipers SC, who had beaten UPDF 1-0 the day before.

Mucureezi’s decisive moment came after Joseph Akandwanaho fouled Allan Mugalu in the box, leaving Mucureezi to slot home from the spot. Meanwhile, Mbarara City’s struggles continued as they remain 12th on the table with 14 points after six losses in 14 outings.

At Luzira Prisons Ground, reigning champions SC Villa ended their four-match winless streak with a narrow 1-0 win over URA. Francis Onekalit, stepping in for the absent Charles Lwanga, scored the match’s only goal in the 62nd minute.

This victory, Villa's fifth in 14 matches, elevated them to seventh on the table with 20 points, just one point and a place below URA. SC Villa temporarily moved their home games to Luzira due to ongoing renovations at Wankulukuku Stadium ahead of CHAN 2024.

Coming Up: Matchday 14 concludes on Sunday as struggling Wakiso Giants host Kitara FC at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.
