NEC temporarily climbed to the top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table with 40 points after a 2-0 victory over Lugazi at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Saturday.

Second-half goals from Gideon Odongo and Emmanuel Ajo secured the win, helping NEC bounce back from their previous setback against Police before the league paused for the Uganda Cup.

Odongo put the hosts ahead in the 58th minute before Man of the Match Paul Mucureezi set up Ajo to seal maximum points. NEC are now level on 40 points with Vipers SC, who can reclaim their three-point lead if they beat Mbarara City on Sunday.

In Masindi, Kitara edged URA 1-0 to register their second successive league win. Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesige’s 36th-minute goal—Kitara’s eighth win in 18 matches—lifted them two places to fourth on 28 points, one ahead of URA, who continue to struggle for consistency despite their previous victory over Maroons.

At Kavumba, BUL continued their impressive run with a 2-0 win over Soltilo Bright Stars, their third consecutive victory. Second-half goals from Walter Ochora and Karim Ndugwa took BUL's tally to seven goals in their last three matches, pushing them three spots up to third with 29 points.

Meanwhile, in Mbale, Cosia Waiswa rescued a point for struggling Mbale Heroes with a dramatic 90th-minute equalizer to cancel out Gerald Ogweti’s goal for Police 15 minutes earlier.

This was Heroes’ first point in five matches, their last coming in a 1-1 draw against UPDF on December 11, 2024. They remain bottom with 10 points, while Police sit just above the relegation zone with 20.
