Uganda Premier League side Police FC have parted ways with head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa following their 3-1 defeat to relegation-threatened Soltilo Bright Stars on Thursday at Kavumba Recreation Grounds.

Mugerwa, who guided the Cops to promotion last season by winning the FUFA Big League title, departs with the team sitting 12th on the table with 23 points.

Under his leadership this season, Police FC registered four wins, 11 draws, and seven losses in the league while also reaching the Stanbic Uganda Cup quarterfinals.

His departure paves the way for experienced coach Matia Lule who is expected to take over as Police FC look to improve their league standing before the season ends.

Mugerwa’s coaching journey includes stints at several clubs, including Fire Masters, SC Villa (assistant coach), Soltilo Bright Stars (assistant/interim head coach) and most recently, Proline FC (head coach). He also boasts success in the Buganda Masaza Cup, having guided Bulemeezi (2019) and Busiro (2022) to championship victories.
