In a stunning display of resilience, SC Villa handed Vipers SC their first defeat in 19 league matches on Saturday evening, with a 1-0 victory at Muteesa II Stadium.
The match, which saw Charles Lwanga’s first-half strike secure all three points for the Jogoos, marked a significant turning point for the team, who had struggled with inconsistent results this season.
The victory was a much-needed boost for SC Villa, pushing them up to eighth place in the standings with 30 points from 21 games, including eight wins, six draws, and seven losses. It also came after a string of disappointing performances, including a loss to Maroons at home.
In the post-match interview, SC Villa head coach Morley Byekwaso passionately spoke about the importance of the win, especially against a Vipers side that has been in hot form. He revealed that the team had put in a lot of preparation to ensure they delivered a strong performance. “This game meant a lot to us,” Byekwaso shared.
“We’ve prepared so much to see that we play well and win. When you look at the table, our position wasn’t really good, so we decided to fight hard to win this game and improve our standing.” Byekwaso went on to praise his players, who he believes have revitalized their spirits following recent setbacks.
He emphasized the importance of learning from past mistakes, noting that the team's growth is now visible. “Winning, for me, is a learning process,” he continued.
“We’ve learned a lot from the games we lost, and we’ve started cleansing our approach. The boys are recognizing the mistakes from previous games, and they’re putting in the effort to ensure we bounce back stronger.”
With two consecutive victories, SC Villa's upward momentum is now evident, and the team looks poised to continue their ascent in the league standings.
