SC Villa delivered a statement victory at Wankulukuku, halting Vipers’ impressive 19-match unbeaten run with a 1-0 triumph that reignites the StarTimes Uganda Premier League title race.

Charles Lwanga’s first-half strike, crafted from a brilliant team move, was the decisive moment. Najib Iga initiated the attack, linking up with Patrick Kakande, whose clever backheel set up Lwanga to slot home and sent the home crowd into celebration.

Despite creating several chances to extend their lead, Villa had to settle for the single goal. However, their resolute defense frustrated Vipers, who struggled to break through. This result still leaves Vipers on top of the table with 49 points from 21 games, but their lead difference over second-placed NEC has been cut to just two points.

Meanwhile, Villa climbs to eighth place with 30 points. Elsewhere, BUL’s flawless second-round form was halted by a goalless draw against Mbarara City at Kakyeka Stadium. Abbey Kikomeko’s side remain third with 36 points, while the Ankole Lions sit 13th with 23 points.

In the late kick-off, URA edged bottom-placed Mbale Heroes in a thrilling five-goal contest at Nakivubo’s Hamz Stadium. Ivan Ahimbisibwe stole the show with a brace, while Norman Namanya added another for the Tax Collectors, who climbed to fifth place with 33 points.

However, Mbale Heroes, had brief moments of hope, with Robert Eseru and Kajuba finding the net. But their fight for survival took another turn as they remain stuck at the foot of the table.
