SC Villa have identified attacking midfielder Sula "Malouda" Matovu as the ideal replacement for Hakim Kiwanuka, who recently joined Rwandan giants APR FC.
Matovu, known for his creativity and skill on the left wing has been training with the Jogoos and is expected to finalize his signing soon. Sources indicate that discussions for his addition have been ongoing since the start of the season, with Villa seeking an experienced figure to strengthen the squad ahead of the second round of the Uganda Premier League.
Matovu is anticipated to make his debut in the Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 64 tie against Seeta United this Saturday in Mukono. Matovu brings a wealth of experience to Morley Byekwaso’s team, having been part of the Uganda Cranes squad that won the 2011 CECAFA Cup in Tanzania.
His extensive career includes stints at Proline (Uganda), Saint George (Ethiopia), Erbil (Iraq), Hacken (Sweden), Kaizer Chiefs (South Africa), and several other clubs across the globe.
Currently eighth on the league table with 20 points, 14 behind table-toppers Vipers, SC Villa are keen to improve their standing in the second half of the season.
However, Club President Omar Mandela has reiterated that the club will avoid big-money signings this transfer window, instead focusing on integrating young talent from their feeder team, Wembley FC.
Matovu's experience and leadership are seen as vital assets to complement the club’s youthful squad as Villa aim to build momentum for the remainder of the campaign.
