Police FC head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa remains optimistic that his side can bring an end to table leaders Vipers SC’s impressive six-match winning streak despite their poor record against the Venoms.
In their last six meetings, Police have failed to secure a single point against Vipers, conceding 16 goals in the process. However, with the two teams set to clash at Kavumba tomorrow in the 19th match day, Mugerwa believes his team is prepared to rise to the occasion and turn their fortunes around.
The Cops are in search of their first league victory since early December when they defeated Wakiso Giants. Mugerwa acknowledges that his team has played well in recent matches but has struggled to see games through to victory.
He views this encounter as a perfect opportunity to demonstrate their resilience.
“We have prepared very well. In our last two home games, we managed to collect four points, and this is one of those matches where we must show character,” Mugerwa stated.
“Facing Vipers is a big test, but the boys are motivated to prove themselves. We need to work hard and ensure we finish on a positive note.”
Mugerwa also pointed out that defensive lapses have cost them in key moments but remains confident that his squad can rise to the challenge.
“We haven’t defended well in crucial situations where we needed to show courage, but tomorrow presents a chance to change that.”
Police will be without midfielder Augustine Kacancu, who is sidelined due to injury. Sitting 13th on the log with 20 points, Police are keen to widen the gap between themselves and relegation-threatened Wakiso Giants.
Meanwhile, Vipers who lead the standings with 43 points, will be aiming to extend their advantage over second-placed NEC, who are three points behind.
