Uganda Premier League leaders Vipers SC maintained their grasp at the top of the table on Sunday, overcoming KCCA FC by a 2-0 score at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
Both teams created an even amount of opportunities but it was the superior class of Vipers' star players that made the difference on the day. In the 29th minute, a long clearance from the KCCA defense was swiftly turned into a Vipers attack and Yunus Sentamu cut inside from the left wing to produce a stellar finish past KCCA keeper Mutwali Mugolofa.
Less than two minutes later, more sloppy play from the hosts allowed Vipers to complete a devastating double blow. A hopeful long ball from the Vipers half was poorly dealt with and Allan Okello snuck in to finish past Mugolofa to make it 2-0 just after the half hour mark. The Venoms were able to hold on and secure their fifth consecutive league victory.
Vipers increased their lead at the top of the table after closest challengers NEC FC could only manage a 1-1 draw at Police FC. Cromwell Rwothomio put visitors NEC ahead inside ten minutes but the hosts battled back late to secure a point through Emmanuel Mugume's stoppage time equalizer in the second half.
After an underwhelming start to the campaign, BUL FC are off to a good start in the second half of the campaign. The Jinja based club secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over last placed Mbale Heroes. In the other match played on Sunday, Lugazi FC defeated relegation battlers Wakiso Giants in a 1-0 result.
The 17th round of matches will conclude on Monday with Mbarara City hosting UPDF while Kitara FC take on Bright Stars.
