Thursday’s StarTimes Uganda Premier League fixtures saw visiting teams steal the spotlight as KCCA, Lugazi, and Police all secured crucial victories on the road.
KCCA edged UPDF 2-1 in Bombo, despite being reduced to 10 men early in the second half. Usama Arafat gave the visitors an early lead in the 8th minute with Sadat Anaku doubling the advantage in the 70th. UPDF’s Andrew Kigozi pulled one back in the 81st minute but the hosts couldn’t complete the comeback.
KCCA’s Joel Sserunjogi was sent off just two minutes after the break for a second bookable offense. The win propelled KCCA to fourth place with 31 points, though they remain 15 points adrift of leaders Vipers SC who have a game in hand. UPDF sit three spots above the relegation zone with 24 points.
In the east, Lugazi dismantled bottom-placed Mbale Heroes 3-1. Sam Ssemugugu opened the scoring in the 3rd minute, Hussein Ssenoga added another in the 35th and Sharif Saaka sealed the victory in the 79th minute. Robert Eseru managed a consolation for Mbale Heroes who languish at the bottom with just 10 points, 11 away from safety. Lugazi’s sixth win of the season further solidified their mid-table position.
Under the Nakivubo floodlights, Police stunned Express with a 2-1 victory. Denis Kalanzi shone as the architect of both goals, assisting James Brian Obedi’s opener in the 49th minute and setting up Reagan Male for the second in the 69th. Conrad Ssenjogera struck late for Express in the 88th minute, but it was too little, too late.
The victory lifted Police one place up to 23 points, just above the relegation zone, while Express remains seventh with 28 points.
Matchday 20 action continues on Friday with five more games on the schedule.
