Wakiso Giants defied the odds on Sunday holding free-scoring Kitara FC to a goalless draw at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, in a gritty StarTimes Uganda Premier League encounter.
Kitara had dazzled fans with a remarkable scoring spree, netting 21 goals in five matches before hitting a defensive wall against Wakiso. The Royals began their scoring run in November with a 4-0 thrashing of UPDF.
A goalless draw against Vipers SC briefly interrupted their momentum, but Kitara stormed back with emphatic victories over Mbale Heroes (6-0), Maroons (4-0) and Express FC (7-0). Despite dominating possession and creating chances on Sunday, Kitara could not break through Wakiso’s resolute defense.
The hosts, battling to escape the relegation zone, showed immense discipline and determination. Wakiso Giants, who had endured a four-match losing streak, appear to be regaining composure with back-to-back goalless draws against Mbarara City and now Kitara.
The draw leaves Kitara in 10th place with 18 points after 14 matches, while Wakiso Giants sit third from bottom on 11 points. Both teams will look to build on this result as they seek better fortunes in their final games of the first round.
