SC Villa’s dynamic winger Hakim Kiwanuka is set to depart for Rwandan giants APR FC in the ongoing January transfer window. The move follows the expiry of his contract with the Uganda Premier League defending champions in December 2024.

Reliable sources confirm that Kiwanuka has agreed terms with APR FC and is expected to travel to Rwanda soon to finalize the transfer. This development effectively rules him out of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), a tournament reserved exclusively for players plying their trade in local leagues.

Kiwanuka, who scored the decisive goal in Uganda's 1-0 victory over Burundi in the CHAN qualification return leg at Nakivubo Stadium had been a key figure in the Uganda Cranes’ plans. However, his imminent move to APR FC means head coach Paul Put will have to name his squad without the pacey winger when the team is announced on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

The 2024 CHAN tournament, co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania from February 1-28, could now proceed without Kiwanuka’s services. His move will add him to the list of Ugandan stars plying their trade at APR FC, joining Cranes midfielder Taddeo Lwanga.

SC Villa, meanwhile, face the task of finding a replacement for the former Proline FC player as they look to maintain their title defense in the second half of the season.
