Tusker FC left-back George Kaddu has revealed that the presence of fellow Ugandans, especially midfielder Boban Zirintusa has been instrumental in helping him settle at the Kenyan Premier League side.
Kaddu joined Tusker FC in July 2024 after his contract with Wakiso Giants FC expired, marking a significant step in his football career. He admitted that having familiar faces like John Byamukama, Deogratius Ojok and Boban Zirintusa at the club has made his transition easier, with Zirintusa playing a particularly pivotal role.
"I got a chance when I joined Tusker FC. I found three fellow Ugandans: John Byamukama, Deogratius Ojok and Boban Zirintusa who have been supportive in a special way," Kaddu told Pan-Africa Football. "Boban’s presence has been key for me to settle in here as he has helped me with many things like language as well as guiding me in different aspects of life."
Kaddu’s football journey began in 2016 with Kiyinda Boys, a fourth-division side where he played a crucial role in guiding them to the regional league in 2018. His breakthrough into Ugandan top-flight football came in 2021 when he signed a three-year deal with Wakiso Giants FC after a standout spell with Gomba Lions.
Now at Tusker FC, Kaddu is living his dream of playing professional football outside Uganda. "It’s every player's dream to play professional football, and I thank God I am working hard since I came here and performing well," he said.
His performances have been crucial to Tusker FC's campaign so far, as the club sits second on the Kenyan Premier League table with 24 points from 13 games, the same tally as league leaders KCB but with a game in hand. Kaddu has established himself as a key figure in the team's defensive setup showcasing his growth and adaptability in a new football environment.
Byamukama, who missed the start of the season due to injury is now back to full fitness and ready to make an impact. The midfielder is optimistic about his contributions to the team's success, setting clear personal and team goals for the campaign.
"I am happy and grateful to God that I successfully recovered from the injury I suffered at the start of the season," Byamukama said. "I am fully back and ready to compete. The addition of fellow Ugandans like George Kaddu and Boban Zirintusa has made life easier here. I now want to win the league this season, make assists, and score goals. Those are my targets."
This is Byamukama’s second season with Tusker FC having joined the club from Uganda Premier League side Express FC. In his debut season he played a pivotal role in helping Tusker finish second in the league just behind champions Gor Mahia FC.
His return from injury and presence in midfield is expected to add depth, creativity and stability as the team pushes for the league title.
Byamukama's return combined with the influence of his fellow Ugandans including George Kaddu and Boban Zirintusa has created a strong Ugandan core at the club. With their shared experience and quality, Tusker FC will be aiming to outpace rivals like KCB and claim the Kenyan Premier League crown.
