Two Ugandan match officials, center referee Lucky Kasalirwe and assistant referee Ronald Katenya, have been named among the officiating team for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals reaffirming their growing reputation on the international stage.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the final list of match officials on Thursday, selecting 26 referees and 25 assistant referees for the tournament.
Kasalirwe and Katenya were recognized for their exceptional performances, securing their spots among Africa’s elite officials.
While Uganda will be represented by these two officials, the country did not feature among the 14 nations providing Video Assistant Referees (VAR) for the competition.
The 2024 CHAN finals will take place from February 1 to 28 and co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. This marks another milestone for Uganda in the tournament’s history, both as co-host and through the inclusion of its officials.
