New York Red Bulls II have announced the contract extension of Ugandan midfielder Steven Sserwadda to a two-year MLS NEXT Pro contract, extending through the 2026 season, pending visa and registration approval.
“We are happy to have Steven [Sserwadda] back with the squad,” said Head Coach Ibrahim Sekagya. “He is a hardworking midfielder who fits well into our system and brings valuable experience to the team.”
Sserwadda has been a consistent performer for Red Bulls II over three seasons, featuring in 41 matches, netting four goals, and providing two assists. The midfielder scored his first career MLS NEXT Pro goal against Philadelphia Union II on April 21, 2024, and notched his first assist against Carolina Core FC on September 1, 2024. He made his debut for the club in a USL Championship match against the Tampa Bay Rowdies on October 16, 2021.
A native of Kampala, Uganda, Sserwadda has also made two appearances for the New York Red Bulls’ first team, logging 27 minutes. His Major League Soccer debut came on June 30, 2022, against Atlanta United FC under a short-term agreement from Red Bulls II.
On the international stage, Sserwadda has earned four caps with the Uganda National Team, amassing 210 minutes. He made his senior debut on March 25, 2022, against Tajikistan.
Additionally, he played a key role for Uganda at the U-20 and U-23 levels, particularly in the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, where he helped his team secure a second-place finish with two goals in the tournament.
Before joining New York, Sserwadda played for Kampala Capital City Authority FC in the Ugandan Premier League, featuring at both the senior and academy levels. During his tenure, he won the Ugandan Premier League, the Uganda Cup, and the CECAFA Clubs Cup.
A few weeks ago, his fellow countryman Ibrahim Owen Kasule also extended his stay at the club. The new contract reflects Red Bulls II’s confidence in Sserwadda’s abilities and highlights his importance to the squad’s plans moving forward.
