Ugandan Players Abroad: Kakooza scores first goal in Albania, Kiwanuka shines for APR FC with maiden goal

Ugandan players across the globe had an eventful weekend, with Derrick Kakooza netting his first goal in Albania, Steven Mukwala scoring a hat-trick in Tanzania, and Hakim Kiwanuka finding the back of the net for the first time at APR FC in Rwanda.


Tanzania;

Steven Mukwala was the star of the weekend as he netted a hat-trick and was named Man of the Match in Simba SC’s 3-0 win over Coastal Union. Khalid Aucho also featured for Young Africans in their 3-0 victory over Pamba.


Rwanda;

Kiwanuka opened his scoring account for APR FC in their 3-1 victory over Police FC. Denis Omedi also featured for APR, while Taddeo Lwanga remained on the bench. Ashraf Mandela played for Police FC.


Elsewhere, Emma Okwi played as AS Kigali defeated Musanze FC 2-1, with Shafik Bakaki featuring for the losing side as well as Sheif Batte. Nicholas Sebwato was on the bench as Mukura Victory fell 3-1 to Marines.


Musa Esenu also found the back of the net for Vision FC as they lost 2-1 against Rutsiro at home. Albania Derrick Kakooza scored his first goal in Albania as his Terbuni Puke drew 2-2 at Naftetari Kucove in a match he played fulltime.


England;

Toby Sibbick played 81 minutes as Wigan fell 2-1 to Reading. Giosue Bellagambi was an unused substitute in Barnet’s 3-0 win over Oldham.


Scotland;

Elvis Bwomono remained on the bench as St Mirren lost 5-2 to Celtic. Jordan Obita played six minutes in Hibernian’s 2-1 win over Hearts.


South Africa;

Isima Watenga played full-time in Golden Arrows’ 2-0 loss to TS Galaxy. Jamal Salim kept a clean sheet as Richards Bay drew 0-0 with Chippa United.


Turkey;

Joan Nabirye played 78 minutes as Trabzonspor defeated Amed SK 2-0. Natasha Shirazi featured for Bornova in their 5-0 loss to Fenerbahce.


Ireland;

Mujaguzi Carl played 46 minutes as Kerry FC suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Dundalk. Czech Republic Aziz Kayondo played 46 minutes, receiving a yellow card in the 5th minute, as Liberec drew 1-1 with Dukla Prague.


Isaac Muleme played full-time in Zizkov’s 2-1 win over Sigma Olomouc B.


Ethiopia;

Tom Ikara played 90 minutes and received a yellow card in the 47th minute as Sidama Bunna drew 1-1 with Welwalo Adigrat. Geoffrey Wasswa was introduced in the 87th minute as Ethiopia Bunna defeated Shire Endaselassie.


Allan Kayiwa was on the bench as Ethiopia Insurance edged Welatya Dicha 1-0. Brian Aheebwa played 90 minutes in Arba Menche’s 1-0 win over Fasil Kenema. Nafian Alionzi kept a clean sheet for Mechal in a 0-0 draw with Musiige Charles' Dire Dawa, where Musiige played the entire game.


Greece;

Yudaya Nakayenze featured for REA Women in a 2-2 draw with Kifisia. Israel Timothy Awany played 90 minutes in Ashdod’s 0-0 draw with Netanya. Romania Kayondo Mahadi scored in CSM Slatina’s 2-1 loss to Selimba.


Sweden;

John Paul Dembe played 29 minutes as his BK Hacken lost 2-0 to Sirius. Calvin Kabuye played 10 minutes after coming on in the 80th minute as his Mjallby defeated Halmstad 3-0 in the Swedish Svenska Cupen.


Zambia;

Kizito featured as Kansanshi Dynamos secured a 1-0 victory over Chipata United.


North Macedonia;

Rogers Mato played 68 minutes in Vardar’s goalless draw with Besa 1976. Shafik Kagimu played 76 minutes as Brera Strumica lost 3-1 to Voska Sport.


Finland;

Viola Nambi played as Aland United advanced to the Kansallinen Cup semi-finals after defeating HPS 6-4 on penalties following a 3-3 aggregate draw.


Kenya;

Farouk Musisi featured while Pius Wangi wasn’t in the match day squad in Kakamega Homeboys’ 4-1 loss to Shabana FC. Sam Kintu wasn’t in the match day squad for Shabana.


Kaddu George, Ojok Deogratius started, Boban Zirintusa came on in the second half while Denis Iguma was an unused substitute in Tusker FC’s 0-0 draw with Bandari FC. William Wadri wasn’t in Bandari’s match day squad.


Cyprus;

Bevis Mugabi came on in the 58th minute as his Anorthosis Famagusta lost 2-1 at home against Karmiotissa FC.


Vietnam;

Geoffrey Baba Kizito played fulltime and also got booked in the 25th minute in his Becamex Binh Duong’s 1-0 away victory over Binh Dinh. It was a weekend full of mixed results, but the spotlight shone on Kakooza, Mukwala and Kiwanuka, who had memorable performances for their respective clubs.
