18-year-old Ugandan midfielder Allan Oyirwoth has not made his debut for the senior team of Major League Soccer club New England Revolution but his strong performances with the reserve team suggest a first-team debut is not far off.
Oyirwoth turned in a Man of the Match performance over the weekend, hammering in the match winner for New England Revolution II against New York City FC II.
Oyirwoth, who arrived after experience with the Uganda under-20 national team, is seen as a promising prospect. “Allan is a talented young midfielder with a tremendous upside and I’m excited to help him reach his potential," said Revolution head coach Caleb Porter upon Oyirwoth's signing.
“At only 17, Allan is gifted technically and has a frame and range athletically that profiles well for MLS. With time to develop in our training environment, I’m confident he can blossom into an impact midfielder for our first team," Porter concluded in his assessment.
Oyirwoth is off to a great start getting his first professional minutes with Revolution II in the league created for MLS reserve teams called MLS Next Pro. However, his time spent training with the senior team introduced him to Nigeria national team midfielder Alhassan Yusuf who Oyirwoth cites as a positive influence during his adaptation to life in the United States and professional football.
“Yusuf helps a lot,” Oyirwoth said to local Revolution news site The Blazing Musket. “He talks to me every day. Whenever I’ve had some problems, I call him and talk to him. He advises me and gives me courage. He gives me confidence. A good person who helps me a lot.”
Currently in the early stages of the 2025 Major League Soccer and MLS Next Pro seasons, if Oyirwoth can continue his strong form with the reserve team then a first team call is not far away. After a poor start to the season, the Revolution have won their last three matches while Revolution II have won five of their six matches.
