Ugandans abroad: Onyango and Watenga post clean sheets in South Africa

It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for Ugandan players abroad. While some enjoyed festive season breaks, others were in action showcasing their talents across different leagues. Here’s a roundup of how they performed:


South Africa


Denis Masinde Onyango kept a clean sheet for Mamelodi Sundowns, guiding his team to a 2-0 away victory over Richards Bay. Fellow Ugandan Salim Jamal, in goal for Richards Bay endured defeat.


Isima Watenga also shone, returning to the starting lineup and keeping a clean sheet as Golden Arrows played out a 0-0 draw at home against Polokwane City.


Tanzania


Khalid Aucho starred for Yanga SC as they cruised to a 5-0 home win over Fountain Gate. Fellow Ugandan Disan Galiwango featured for the losing side.

Steven Mukwala started for Simba SC, helping them secure a crucial 1-0 away victory against Singida Black Stars.


Italy


Elio Capradossi missed out due to injury as his Cittadella FC side earned a 2-1 home win over Palermo in Serie B.


Scotland


Elvis Bwomono started for St Mirren FC, playing until the 82nd minute before being substituted in a 2-1 home loss to Dundee FC.


England


Toby Sibbick featured for Wigan Athletic but couldn’t prevent a 2-1 defeat to Wrexham in League One.


Tunisia


Kenneth Semakula played until the 73rd minute as Club Africain secured a 1-0 home win against CA Bizertin.


Egypt


Joseph Ochaya was in action for Arab Contractors, who edged LaViena 1-0 at home. Joachim Ojera missed out due to suspension for accumulated yellow cards.


Israel


Timothy Awany was not in the squad as Ashdod FC triumphed 4-3 away against Hapoel Afula in the Israel State Cup.


Rwanda


Allan Kateregga made a brief appearance, coming on in the final three minutes as Police FC defeated Gasozi United 2-0. Fullbacks Eric Ssenjobe and Ashraf Mandela were unused substitutes.


While some players enjoyed victories and clean sheets, others faced challenges, from injuries to suspensions. With the season progressing, football lovers in Uganda will look forward to more impactful performances from their stars abroad.
