The Uganda Police have released an official statement clarifying the circumstances of Vipers SC striker Abubakar Lawal’s sudden passing, contradicting earlier reports that he was involved in a motorcycle accident.

According to the police report, Lawal tragically fell from the third floor of Voicemall Shopping Arcade on the morning of February 24, 2025. Preliminary investigations indicate that the Nigerian forward had arrived at the shopping mall in his vehicle to meet his friend, Omary Naima, a Tanzanian national.

Naima stated that she left Lawal in the room preparing tea and proceeded to a game center within the mall. Shortly after, at approximately 8:00 AM, Lawal reportedly fell from the balcony.

Lawal was immediately rushed to Entebbe Referral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities recovered several of his personal belongings from his black backpack, including two smartphones, a pair of open shoes, headsets, a training kit, and chargers.

The Kajjansi Police Division has launched a thorough investigation into the incident, reviewing CCTV footage and interrogating key witnesses to establish the exact circumstances leading to Lawal’s fall.

His untimely passing has sent shockwaves throughout the football community, with fans, teammates, and opponents paying heartfelt tributes to his memory.

Lawal, who joined Vipers SC in 2022, had been an integral part of the squad, and his loss leaves a significant void in Ugandan football.
