UPDF march past BUL as Police tame Purple Sharks to deepen their misery

Uganda’s security forces dominated Wednesday’s StarTimes Uganda Premier League action as UPDF defeated BUL FC 2-0 in Lugazi while Police FC edged Wakiso Giants 2-1 at Kavumba Recreation Ground to pile more misery on the Purple Sharks.

At Lugazi, Christopher Kamagu and Brian Kalumba struck for UPDF in either half. Kamagu opened the scoring in the 26th minute, capitalizing on a precise pass from Ronald Kayondo to outrun BUL’s shaky defense and finish with composure.

The game was put to bed in the 87th minute when Shakibu Mayanja’s brilliant dribble from a short corner set up Kalumba to seal the victory. The win marked UPDF’s fourth of the season, lifting them to sixth place with 16 points just six behind league leaders NEC.

This result is a remarkable recovery for the army men following a heavy 4-0 defeat to Kitara and a 2-2 draw with Police in their previous matches. Meanwhile, BUL’s struggles continued as they suffered their third defeat of the campaign and extended their winless streak to four matches. They remain ninth on 14 points after 11 games.

At Kavumba, Police arrested Wakiso Giants’ hopes for redemption, securing their third win of the season. Isaac Ogwang’s first-half strike and Brian James Obedi’s second-half goal ensured victory for the Cops while Abdul Ssemakula’s effort for Wakiso was merely a consolation.

The win elevated Police to fourth with 16 points, showcasing a strong recovery from three consecutive draws. On the other hand, Wakiso Giants’ woes deepened, extending their winless run to eight matches.

They now sit precariously above the relegation zone in 13th place with nine points, just one above the drop zone. Matchday 11 continues on today, Thursday as Mbarara City welcomes Maroons at Kakyeka Stadium while URA FC hosts NEC at Nakivubo Stadium under floodlights.
