NEC FC and URA FC wrapped up the latest round of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League in style with vital victories on Matchday 15, keeping the pressure on league leaders Vipers SC as the competition enters a break ahead of the 2024 CHAN tournament.

NEC secured their 10th win of the season with a narrow 1-0 triumph over Mbale Heroes, courtesy of Enoch Ssebagala’s 35th-minute strike. The win places coach Hussein Mbalangu's side just one point behind table-toppers Vipers SC, who lead with 34 points.

NEC and Vipers remain the only teams to have recorded 10 wins in the first round. KCCA FC also finished strongly, defeating Mbarara City 2-0 in Mbarara thanks to second-half goals from Emmanuel Anyama and Etienne Katenga.

The victory sees KCCA end the first round in third place with 27 points, six behind NEC and seven adrift of Vipers. Elsewhere, Kitara FC ended their first round on a high with a dramatic 1-0 win over SC Villa in Hoima.

Marvin Nyanzi’s injury-time goal lifted Kitara to sixth place on 21 points, while Villa slipped to seventh with 20. At Nakivubo Stadium, Joseph Ssemujju struck nine minutes from time to secure URA FC’s seventh win of the season, a 1-0 victory over Police FC.

The Tax Collectors now sit fifth with 24 points, while Police linger in 10th place with 18. BUL FC and Wakiso Giants shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw in Najjembe. Hudson Mbalire’s opener for Wakiso was canceled out by Ibrahim Mugulusi’s 75th-minute equalizer.

BUL finished the first round in ninth place with 20 points, while Wakiso Giants are struggling in the relegation zone, third from bottom with 12 points. The league now takes a break to allow preparations for the 2024 CHAN finals, set to take place in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania from February 1 to 28, 2025.
