Nigeria forward Umar Sadiq came off the bench to rescue a point for Valencia in a 1-1 Spanish La Liga draw against Villarreal at El Madrigal on Saturday.
Sadiq, who is on loan from Real Sociedad, was making his fourth appearance for Valencia. It was Senegal international Pape Gueye who put the home side ahead in the 32nd minute after a move which was initiated by former Arsenal player and Ivory Coast winger Nicolas Pepe.
Gueye’s goal saw Villarreal go into the half-time break enjoying a 1-0 lead. The second half saw Valencia continue to raid for a second goal but Villarreal goalkeeper Diego Conde pulled off some great saves to keep the score 1-0.
Sadiq was introduced in the 55th minute for Hugo Duro, and he made an immediate impact as he missed an open sitter in the 60th minute. However, in the 84th minute, the Super Eagle made amends after he scored to rescue a crucial point for Valencia.
However, Sadiq was yellow carded in the 90th minute following a clumsy foul but Valencia held on to earn a point on the road. Out of four La Liga matches, Sadiq has managed one goal and is yet to provide an assist.
For the 26-year-old Gueye, he has featured 22 times for Villarreal and scored two goals.
