Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has provided positive news that Nigerians would like to hear regarding the injury of midfielder Wilfred Ndidi ahead of their Premier League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
The Super Eagle was injured during the game against Brighton after he collided with Joao Pedro on December 8, 2024 in the fixture that ended in a 2-2 draw. Ndidi has gone ahead two miss eight matches in all competitions.
He missed in action as Leicester suffered a 4-0 defeat against Newcastle United, 3-0 defeat against Wolves, 3-1 defeat against Liverpool, 2-0 defeat against Manchester City, 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa, 6-2 win over QPR in the third round of the FA Cup, 2-0 defeat against Crystal Palace and 2-0 defeat against Fulham.
However, according to the former Manchester United forward, Ndidi is making good pogress with his rehabilitation. “The players that were available against Fulham are available at this moment for Spurs on Sunday. Wilf is making good progress in his rehabilitation. Hopefully he can be a part of team training at some point next week,” explained van Nistelrooy.
On Ghana international Abdul Fatawu, he said: “He (Fatawu) is very good. We know what we’re looking at with a cruciate injury, how long it will take. He is taking steps. We know the length of the injury; it’s not on the short term.”
The return to fitness of Ndidi will be a huge boost for Nigeria, who are waiting to know whom they face when the draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will be held in Morocco.
